Who are they?
Based in Dürnstein, in the heart of the Wachau, Domäne Wachau brings together about 200 growers who cultivate small plots scattered across the region’s steep slopes. Under the direction of Roman Horvath MW and Heinz Frischengruber, the cooperative focuses on precision, terroir and close collaboration with its members. More than 160 hectares of vines are farmed organically and much of the work on the terraces is done by hand. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are central, with wines ranging from fresh, approachable cuvées to deeper single-site expressions from great vineyards like Kellerberg and Achleiten.

Domäne Wachau works with around 200 growers who each tend small plots, enabling precise parcel-level monitoring and a very close relationship between vineyard and cellar.
Working the terraces
The steep slopes of the Wachau require largely manual work. These terraces shape the landscape as much as they shape the fresh, taut and mineral character of the wines.
Organic at scale
With over 160 hectares of organically farmed vines, the estate puts soil health, biodiversity and respect for the vineyard at the center of its approach.
