The producer

Who are they?

A former sommelier, Éric Bordelet took over the family estate in 1992 in Charchigné, in the north of Mayenne, on the doorstep of Normandy. His work is based on orchards of apples, pears and medlars that include a wide diversity of varieties. His approach transfers a wine-like perspective to cider: attention paid to the fruit, the soil, the vintage, the blends and the final balance.

Their approach

What sets them apart.

01

Varietal diversity

The estate works with a large number of apple and pear varieties to construct its cuvées from balances of sweetness, acidity, bitterness, tannins and aromatic expression.

02

A terroir-based approach

Éric Bordelet approaches his orchards with a sensitivity akin to that of the wine world, placing strong emphasis on soils, fruit and the characteristics of each harvest.

03

Orchards managed organically

The orchards are managed according to organic farming principles, with an approach that also follows biodynamic principles.

Le Premier Verre

Why we follow them.

Because Éric Bordelet is an essential reference for understanding how far cider can go when it’s conceived with the same exacting standards as wine. His work puts fruit variety, terroir and balance front and centre, definitively lifting cider out of the image of a simple fruity drink.
