Maison agricole Joy Hill
In Frelighsburg, Justine and Julien grow European grape varieties on the heights of Joy Hill and make natural wines that are firmly rooted in their corner of the country.

The estate
Justine Therrien and Julien Niquet began planting Joy Hill in 2017, at the very top of the hill of the same name in Frelighsburg. Their project was born from a fairly simple desire: to grow here the grape varieties they enjoy drinking and see what they can reveal once rooted in Quebec.
Today, gamay, chardonnay, riesling and several other varieties grow on the heights of the estate. Justine and Julien accompany them with a natural, low-intervention approach, both in the vineyards and in the cellar. Free, lively wines that are very Joy Hill.
Four things to know.
01
European grape varieties in Quebec
Joy Hill grows, among others, gamay, riesling and grüner veltliner. The estate selected varieties it likes to drink and wants to see express themselves on the heights of Frelighsburg.
02
At the very top of the hill
The vineyard is located at about 300 meters elevation, on a south-facing slope. Its stony soil provides good drainage and warms up quickly.
03
Low-intervention wines
In the cellar, Joy Hill favors natural fermentations and limits additives. The reds undergo, notably, carbonic or semi-carbonic macerations.
04
In the vineyard
Chardonnay · Gamay · Grüner Veltliner · Melon de Bourgogne · Pinot blanc · Riesling
Why Maison agricole Joy Hill.
A place here is earned. This is what convinced us.
Because Joy Hill shows another side of Quebec wine. Justine and Julien chose to work with European grape varieties and let them express themselves in the very particular conditions of Frelighsburg. We’re keen to follow their evolution vintage after vintage.
